Pay: $19-24/HR, based on experience

Shift: M-F, 6:30AM to 3PM

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • 1 year of experience working in an accredited/non-accredited laboratory animal facility or within a veterinary technician program is preferred.
  • Strong English reading, writing, and computer skills are required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates mechanical cage-washing equipment according to manufacturer and department standard operating procedures. This includes automation systems, tunnel racks, high-pressure autoclaves, dry heat sterilizers, and automatic bedding dispensing units such as the SureFlo bedding removal system and SureVac vacuum system.
  • Removes, receives, and dumps soiled rodent cages and water bottles for cleaning.
  • Handles, stores, and prepares clean materials processed through cage-washing equipment.
  • Fills sanitized water bottles with reverse osmosis (RO) water from designated filling stations as required.
  • Prepares clean cage setups for animal care staff, and assists in the use, cleaning, and maintenance of the SureVac system.
  • Maintains chemical mixing stations, including the preparation and filling of chemicals. Provides animal care staff with clean forceps and containers to be filled with properly mixed chemicals daily.
  • Handles, dumps, removes, and packages chemical or biohazard-treated bedding and debris at ABSL1, ABSL2, and chemical hazard levels 1 and 2.
  • Removes and packages carcasses on a weekly basis.
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness in cage-wash areas, including both clean and dirty sides. Regularly sanitizes walls, ceilings, floors, cage-washing equipment (including stainless steel polish), and storage racks.
  • Responsible for the daily removal of recycling, soiled materials, and trash, moving them to the designated holding area and dumpster.
  • Monitors environmental conditions in the cage-wash areas, promptly reporting any deviations to senior staff, supervisors, or management.
  • Reports mechanical issues with equipment to senior sanitation technicians, sanitation supervisors, or management.
  • Completes daily floor decontamination using an electronic floor scrubber
