Job description

Title: Psychiatric Technician

Position Summary:

  • We are seeking a compassionate Psychiatric Technician to join our pediatric behavioral health team. In this role, you will ensure the safety and well-being of children and adolescents, perform nursing assistant duties, and provide behavioral management support. Your ability to assess, intervene, and de-escalate situations will be essential in maintaining a secure environment for both independent and dependent patients.

Day to Day:

  • Monitors and supports the mental health and daily functioning of child and adolescent patients.
  • Ensures patient and staff safety by monitoring for risks and reporting concerns.
  • Utilizes therapeutic approaches to manage the milieu, minimizing restraint and seclusion.
  • Completes documentation and facilitates psychoeducational groups as scheduled.
  • Maintains a therapeutic environment and provides high-quality patient care.
  • Keeps current on psychiatric nursing practices, including de-escalation and trauma-informed care.
  • Adheres to confidentiality, infection control, and cleanliness standards.
  • Provides culturally sensitive care, respecting patient autonomy and dignity.
  • Seeks ongoing self-assessment and feedback to improve expertise and collaborates with the team.
  • May perform delegated tasks under RN supervision.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Understanding of mental health, acquired through at least 1 year of academic study in behavioral sciences or related experience.
  • Minimum of 6 months' experience in a pediatric mental health setting preferred.
  • Strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ability to remain composed and respond swiftly as part of a team in high-pressure or emergency situations.
  • Proficient in applying de-escalation strategies, setting boundaries, and utilizing the least restrictive interventions during pre-crisis moments.


Shift: 40 hours

Monday-Sunday Rotation from 7am-3:30pm and 3pm-11:30pm (pay differentials included!)
