Job description

Position Title: Phlebotomist

Position Summary:
The Phlebotomist will be responsible for independently performing blood draws for patients of all ages, ensuring accurate and safe collection of specimens. The role requires adherence to proper safety protocols, accurate data entry, and preparation of specimens for transport. This is an independent position, and the phlebotomist will work directly with patients, maintain a clean work environment, and ensure all procedures are followed for quality and compliance.

Position Overview:

  • Perform blood draws independently throughout the day, working directly with patients of all ages.

  • Sterilize equipment, collect specimens using safety protocols, and follow standard procedures to identify patients and label test tubes.

  • Log procedures and enter specimen data into the computer system, ensuring accurate recording and proper preparation for transport.

  • Confirm correct labeling for processing and ensure specimens are prepared for courier pickup.

  • Maintain cleanliness of work area and ensure adequate laboratory supplies.

  • Ensure compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and laboratory safety practices.

  • Handle administrative duties to receive, identify, accession, and process specimens for accurate test performance.

  • Provide exceptional customer service by responding courteously and professionally to patients, clients, and co-workers.

  • Understand laboratory requisitioning for appropriate billing documentation.

Requirements:

  • Comfortable and confident performing independent phlebotomy work.

  • Phlebotomy certification is not required, but previous experience with blood draws is essential.

  • Basic computer and data entry skills.

Hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM or 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

  • Half-hour lunch

Pay Scale:

  • Pay is based on experience:

    • $16 - 21 / hr

Location:

  • Columbus, OH

Dress Code:

  • Scrubs (solid colors only)
