Job Summary:
We are seeking a meticulous and dedicated Pharmacy Technician to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting pharmacists by handling various tasks related to prescription processing, medication management, and patient interaction. Your attention to detail and commitment to ensuring accurate medication dispensing and adherence to safety regulations will be essential to your success.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Demographics Management:
Accurately input and update patient demographic information into the pharmacy's computer system to ensure proper patient records.
Prescription Processing:
Utilize prescription processing software to enter and manage prescription orders efficiently.
Screen prescription refills to verify eligibility and ensure compliance with prescription guidelines.
Refill Verification:
Review and verify refill requests for accuracy and legitimacy, ensuring that duplicates and potential errors are addressed.
Data Entry:
Enter detailed information regarding dosage and medication strength into the prescription processing software, maintaining accurate records.
Billing and Insurance:
Check for third-party insurance coverage and process billing to ensure accurate and timely reimbursement.
Resolve any billing discrepancies or issues with insurance providers as needed.
Medication Handling:
Remove the correct medications from stock, ensuring that expired or unusable drugs are appropriately managed.
Accurately count, pour, or mix pharmaceuticals in accordance with prescription orders and safety standards.
Labeling and Packaging:
Affix medication labels to containers with precision, including all necessary information such as dosage instructions and warnings.
Package and repackage medications as required, ensuring they are secure and correctly labeled.
Patient Identification:
Verify patient identity using at least two types of identification when dispensing medications at the patient will-call window.
Inventory Management:
Maintain inventory levels, including conducting regular stock checks and ordering supplies as needed to prevent shortages.
Support and Collaboration:
Provide support to pharmacists by assisting with various tasks, including medication preparation, patient consultations, and administrative duties.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure all procedures are followed according to safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and pharmacy protocols to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
Communication:
Communicate effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and pharmacy staff to provide information and address any concerns or questions.
Training and Development:
Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities to stay current with industry standards, best practices, and new technologies.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent required; certification from a pharmacy technician program preferred.
Valid Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification or equivalent.
Previous experience in a pharmacy setting is advantageous.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and medication handling.
Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
Strong communication skills and customer service orientation.
Proficiency in using pharmacy software and basic computer applications.
Physical Requirements:
