Job description

We are seeking an organized and detail-oriented Order Entry Technician to join our pharmacy team. The primary role of this position is to efficiently enter medication orders while ensuring clear communication between the pharmacy and nursing facility staff.   • Location: Deerfield Beach, FL
  • Shift: 2 opening shifts - one day shift and one night shift
  • Day shift: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM (Every other weekend)
  • Night shift: 5:00 PM - 2:00 AM (No weekends)
  • Pay: $22-26/hour
  • Reports To: Order Entry Supervisor

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the mission, values, and principles of the Pharmacy Services.
  • Ensure fax orders are legible and accurate.
  • Perform required data entry tasks efficiently.
  • Clarify missing or illegible information with facility staff as directed by the pharmacist.
  • Utilize standard sig codes during order entry to maintain consistency.
  • Answer and handle phone calls, directing them to the appropriate staff as needed.
  • Communicate with prescribing practitioners or their agents regarding missing or unclear details such as dates, prescriber name, brand preferences, license or DEA numbers.
  • Assist staff pharmacists with their duties as necessary.
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned.

  • Protect patient rights and ensure an environment of privacy, dignity, and safety.
  • Comply with safety protocols, including universal precautions, risk management, and emergency plans.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all data, including patient and employee information.
  • Adhere to workplace policies against sexual harassment, discrimination, and illegal behavior.
  • Promote teamwork by collaborating effectively with coworkers, including resolving complaints and concerns.
  • Participate in staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
  • Follow company policies regarding attendance, uniform, dress code, and personal hygiene.
  • Availability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must have a valid Florida State Pharmacy Technician license or be eligible for licensure.

Language Skills:

  • Proficiency in English (both written and spoken) is required.
  • Spanish language skills are a plus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients, and family members.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense in performing tasks and solving problems.
  • Ability to work under pressure, handle multitasking, and interact effectively with people.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, and communicate clearly.
  • Must have the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and push/pull up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods (up to 8 hours per day).

Position Details:

  • Shift Options:
    • Day shift: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM (Every other weekend)
    • Night shift: 5:00 PM - 2:00 AM (No weekends)
  • Salary Range: $22 - $26/hr, depending on experience.
    • Previous order entry experience is a plus but not required.
    • Competitive pay for experienced candidates, especially those with prior order entry experience ($24-$26/hr)
