Job Posting: Contract Clinical Pharmacist (Behavioral Health, TJC Prep)

Location: Inpatient Facility

Pay: $70-75/hour

Contract Duration: Short-Term / Long-Term Contract Opportunities Available

Hours: Flexible scheduling for 28-32 hours a week

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Clinical Pharmacist with a strong background in behavioral health and inpatient care to join our team on a contract basis. In this role, you will be an integral part of patient care rounds, provide expertise on psychotropic medications, and ensure compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards. This role requires a clinical pharmacist who can support both therapeutic drug monitoring and administrative functions, including TJC preparation.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Support

  • Attend patient rounds each morning, offering expertise on psychotropic medications, therapeutic drug monitoring (e.g., Lithium, Depakote), and metabolic monitoring.
  • Provide guidance on both psychotropic and other medical medications, ensuring optimal patient care in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Monitor and evaluate drug therapies, ensuring safe and effective treatment plans for behavioral health patients.

Liaison with Pharmacy

  • Serve as the primary liaison with our Long-Term Care (LTC) pharmacy, to troubleshoot issues related to medication delivery and ensure patients have timely and consistent access to their prescribed medications.

Administrative Functions

  • Perform data audits and serve as the chairperson for Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) and Pain Management Stewardship committees.
  • Participate in key hospital committees, including Medical Executive Committee (MEC) and Antimicrobial Stewardship.
  • Support TJC preparation efforts, performing monthly medication room inspections, and ensuring all protocols align with TJC standards.

TJC Preparation and Compliance

  • Provide critical support in preparation for The Joint Commission (TJC) survey expected in February.
  • Ensure all pharmacy-related operations meet or exceed TJC standards, actively contributing to inspection readiness.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited institution.
  • PGY-2 residency in Behavioral Health or significant clinical experience in inpatient behavioral health pharmacy.
  • Extensive knowledge of psychotropic medications, therapeutic drug monitoring, and metabolic monitoring.
  • Familiarity with TJC standards, with experience in preparing for TJC inspections.
  • Proficiency in managing administrative tasks, including committee leadership, data auditing, and compliance reviews.
  • Experience in coordinating with LTC pharmacies and managing medication-related issues.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data tracking and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in pain management, antimicrobial stewardship, and other specialized pharmacy areas.
  • Exceptional communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex clinical and administrative challenges.
