Job description

Medix is hiring a detail-oriented Insurance Payment Reconciliation Specialist to support a leading company in the healthcare industry. In this role, you will be responsible for researching and resolving payment discrepancies for a portfolio of older accounts, ensuring timely reconciliations, and obtaining EOBs (Explanation of Benefits) from insurance providers. You'll also follow up with payers, particularly commercial insurance companies, and collaborate closely with the Senior Cash Applications Manager and payment posting team to streamline processes. If you're ready for a challenging and rewarding opportunity, we want to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtain necessary information from postings and determine where to retrieve EOBs.
  • Identify when to access portals or make calls to verify information with payers.
  • Research older accounts, tracking down missing information or EOBs.
  • Verify whether payments were made by check and how to retrieve the corresponding EOB.
  • Resolve payment issues by reviewing payment history and working closely with insurance companies.
  • Follow up on complex, high-priority accounts to obtain EOBs and reconcile payments.
  • Assist in the cleanup of older accounts without pulling current collectors from their main tasks.
  • Communicate directly with insurance companies, providers, and payers to resolve discrepancies and obtain needed documentation.
  • Regularly monitor and report progress on the resolution of outstanding issues.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • No set benchmarks; progress will be monitored based on account resolution complexity.
  • Expected to manage approximately 30-40 accounts at a time, with flexibility for accounts requiring more in-depth research.
  • Timely follow-up and resolution, particularly with commercial payers.

Qualifications:

  • Required:

      • 2 years of experience in collections/follow-up, preferably in a healthcare setting.
      • Strong understanding of the revenue cycle and insurance processes.
      • Proficient in Microsoft Excel for tracking and reporting purposes.
      • Ability to read and follow up on Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statements.

  • Preferred:

    • Experience handling commercial insurance accounts.
    • Background in cash posting or payment posting.
    • Previous experience with clean-up projects in a similar capacity.

Soft Skills & Attributes:

  • Strong work ethic and dedication to completing tasks efficiently.
  • Comfortable handling complex, sometimes time-consuming research and follow-up.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with insurance companies, providers, and internal teams.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in resolving issues.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time onsite, Monday through Friday, with available shifts from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM

Pay:

  • $19-22/hr (based on experience)

For California Applicants:

We will consider for employment all qualified Applicants, including those with criminal histories, in a manner consistent with the requirements of applicable federal, state and local laws, including the City of Los Angeles' Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance (FCIHO), Los Angeles Fair Chance Ordinance for Employers (ULAC), The San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance (FCO) , and the California Fair Chance Act (CFCA).
