Patient Service Representative

Job description

Candidates must be located in the Phoenix, AZ area, as onsite training is required for the first two weeks before transitioning to remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of administrative and clerical tasks, including scheduling patient appointments, processing referrals, and handling medical records requests in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Provide excellent customer service by professionally assisting patients, healthcare providers, and insurance representatives via phone and email.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy when updating patient records and verifying insurance information to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Efficiently manage a high volume of inbound and outbound calls, averaging 30-40 calls per day, while maintaining a 45% conversion ratio for appointment scheduling.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members and departments to streamline processes and improve patient experiences.
  • Handle sensitive medical and financial information with discretion and in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Adapt to workflow changes and new procedures as directed, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to learn.

Schedule

  • Shifts will be scheduled between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of experience in a Medical Front Desk, Call Center, or Customer Service role within a healthcare setting.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to handle a high volume of calls professionally and efficiently.
  • Comfortable working in a phone-based role for extended periods, remaining seated for most of the shift.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology, insurance verification, or electronic medical records (EMR) is a plus.
  • High school diploma or GED required.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience using Athenahealth (Athena) EMR/EHR software.
  • Bilingual in Spanish (preferred but not required).
  • Prior experience working in a healthcare environment or medical office.
  • Familiarity with Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and insurance processes.

Pay

  • $17 to $22 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Training

  • Comprehensive two-week in-person training will be provided to ensure a smooth transition into the role.
