Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

As a Patient Registration Specialist you will…

  • Maintains a positive attitude at all times in a fast-paced environment. Provide a high level of customer service involving culturally appropriate interactions and connections with patients. Acts as a liaison to greet and direct patient flow.
  • Conducts initial patient interview to obtain patients demographics, health care insurances, and eligibility requirement documents. Ensures that required forms or eligibility documents are provided and scanned in patient's health record. Maintains updated and accurate knowledge of tribal regulations as they relate to coverage based upon geographic residence locations and tribal membership.
  • Reviews, updates and maintains all patient data in various components of the patient's health record (RPMS, BPRM, and Vista Imaging).
  • Establishes new patient charts in collaboration with Health Information Management team. Interviews patients to obtain pertinent registration information to insure eligibility for services. Obtains copies of tribal enrollment cards/CIB and other healthcare coverage cards including ACA, Medicare, Medicaid and/or private/commercial insurance and copy/scan/retain in patient chart.
  • Conducts insurance verification for third party payers, including but not limited to Medicaid, Medicare and commercial plans.
  • Communicates with billing department and Benefit Coordinators to optimize patient resources and billing reimbursement.
  • Follows all professional and ethical behavior standards of the healthcare industry. Interacts in an honest, trustworthy and dependable manner with patients, employees and stakeholders. Upholds all principles of confidentiality and patient care to the fullest extent including compliance with HIPAA standards.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma/GED

Soft Skill/Attribute Requirements

  • Possess general understanding of the changing healthcare environment.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of basic office equipment such as: "EMR (electronic medical record system), Microsoft Excel computer, internet, email, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Work Environment: This position is going to be ON SITE.
