Job description

Perioperative Nurse

Seattle, WA
Hours: 40 hours/week

Shift & Schedule

  • 4x10 Shifts: Monday - Friday, with a rotating weekday off.

Shift Options: 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM | 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM | 8:00 AM - 6:30 PM

Position Overview

This role involves providing safe, high-quality, and patient-centered care in the Operating Room (OR) and other perioperative settings. The Perioperative Nurse will work across multiple patient populations, ensuring best practices are followed throughout the surgical care continuum.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Safety & Advocacy:
    • Protect patients from injury caused by equipment or external sources (chemical, electrical, mechanical).
    • Monitor for and prevent surgical site infections.
    • Perform accounting procedures to avoid unintended retention of surgical items.
    • Advocate for patient safety by communicating concerns when needed.
  • Care Coordination & Communication:
    • Assess and monitor patients throughout the perioperative process.
    • Collaborate with the surgical team, anesthesiologists, and other professionals.
    • Provide timely hand-offs and ensure effective communication during time-sensitive situations.
  • Medication & Wound Management:
    • Administer medications following the "8 Rights" of medication administration.
    • Perform interventions to maintain optimal wound healing and tissue perfusion.
  • Education & Family Involvement:
    • Educate patients and their families on post-operative care, including nutrition, wound care, pain management, and psychosocial responses.
    • Involve patients and support persons in decision-making throughout the care plan.
  • Compliance & Best Practices:
    • Follow Universal Protocols, safety huddles, and aseptic techniques.
    • Maintain a fire-safe and radiation-safe environment in compliance with facility policies.
    • Adhere to privacy standards, protecting patient rights and dignity.
  • Documentation & Continuous Improvement:
    • Document care accurately, timely, and legibly.
    • Participate in quality improvement projects and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

Must-Have Skills:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • 1+ year experience as an OR, Medical, or Surgical nurse.
  • Active state nursing license in good standing.
  • BLS/BCLS certification (within 90 days of hire).
  • ACLS and PALS certification (within 90 days of hire).

Preferred Skills:

  • Specialty certification in Perioperative Nursing.
  • Strong commitment to timely follow-ups (within 24-48 hours).

Contract Length:

1040 Hours. Opportunity to convert to permanent hire after satisfactory completion of contract.
