Job description

1. Oversees the efficient flow of patients through the eye clinic, assuring that resources are
sufficient for scheduled patients and that they are directed appropriately.
2. Provides a variety of preliminary ocular assessment activities, including but not limited
to, obtaining a complete and accurate medical history, visual acuity and stereo testing,
lensometry, motility, applanation tonometry, pupil dilation, potential acuity meter testing
and, and manifest refraction/autorefractometry.
3. Provides assistance to the physician with examination procedures and other patient care
activities as requested. When appropriate, performs lensometry, including reading lenses
with multifocal and progressive adds, and determines power of sphere, axis of cylinder
power and orientation of prism.
4. Performs intraocular pressure assessments through the use of applanation tonometry and
also utilizing the tonopen.
5. Instills dilating drops (and other ophthalmic drops) per physician's instructions.
6. Interacts and communicates in a professional manner with fellow employees, medical
staff and other health team professionals.
7. Ensures that exam rooms are stocked with appropriate instruments, as well as patient
handouts, & any other equipment/materials, as required by physicians.
8. Formulates and maintains effective working relationships with peers, managers and other
members of the health care team.
9. Receives constructive feedback in a positive self-develop-mental manner.
10. Functions as an effective team member.
