Job description

Medix is hiring an Ophthalmic Technician for a direct hire position for one of our clients in Clermont, FL - a practice known for their excellence in vitreo-retinal diseases and surgery! Full time, varied hours, M-F. Pays $18-24/hr depending on experience and benefits.

Ophthalmic Tech Responsibilities:

  • Verify patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of visit.
  • Secure patient information and maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding
  • Counsel patients by transmitting Physician's orders, use of drops, drugs and questions about surgery.
  • Assist with in office procedures such as laser surgeries and ocular injections.
  • Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; asking for repairs if necessary.
  • Prepare patients for ophthalmology examination by dilating their pupils; reporting patient history summary, recording changes in visual acuity, checking pressure via applanation tonometry and checking blood pressure.

Ophthalmic Tech Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or Bachelor's Degree
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Medical Scribe (COS), or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) strongly preferred
  • Experience in clinical ophthalmology preferred
  • Travel Required
  • Must have flexible hours (early mornings/late evenings)
  • Encouraged to have a current certification as a COA. COS or COT or, must obtain COA certification within 12 months of hire date.
  • For all positions must possess: Certified Patient Service Specialist (CPSS), obtained within 6 months of hire date.
