Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Radiation Oncology Nurse Navigator (RN) to join our comprehensive oncology team. The ideal candidate will have experience in Radiation Oncology or Nurse Navigating, preferably both, and will serve as a vital point of contact for patients undergoing radiation therapy. As part of the team, you will ensure smooth patient transitions from intake through treatment and follow-up, coordinate care, and provide essential education and support.
Responsibilities/Job Duties:
- Conduct patient intake, assessment, triage, and navigation for all patients referred for radiation therapy
- Act as a liaison between referring physicians, radiation therapy services, and other internal departments
- Screen patients for relevant information and obtain necessary medical records
- Coordinate patient evaluations and collaborate with various departments (Medical Oncology, Radiology, Radiation Medicine, etc.)
- Manage patient care at various stages (diagnosis, treatment, follow-up) ensuring effective care coordination
- Facilitate patient participation in clinical trials, handle informed consent processes, and assist with specimen collection as needed
- Provide ongoing patient and caregiver education, addressing concerns related to medical conditions, treatments, clinical trials, and hospital processes
- Assist in maintaining outcomes databases and managing IRB communications and regulatory updates
- Attend tumor boards and work with the marketing department to develop outreach and promotional materials for the Radiation Therapy Program
- Participate in community education and outreach efforts
- Support patient education and assist in creating resource materials
- Perform other duties as required
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing
- Active Virginia or Compact RN License
- Minimum three (3) years of nursing experience
- Experience in Radiation Oncology or as a Nurse Navigator (both preferred)
- Reliable and committed to working in a full-time capacity
- Ability to navigate EMR systems and use basic technology (email, documentation)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Oncology experience
- IV skills (preferred but not required, approximately 5-7 IVs per week)
- Experience with outpatient settings and flexibility to adapt to different clinic environments
