Ideal Candidate Profile:

Educational Requirements:

  • Required: Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) with a Neonatal background.
  • Experience: Must have at least 2-4 years of bedside NICU RN experience before transitioning to an NP program.
  • Vetting: References from neonatologists, preceptors, or program directors.

Experience Requirements:

  • Would consider a new grad NP but must have prior experience as a Neonatal RN. Candidates should NOT come from family practice backgrounds.

Industry/Technical Skills:

  • Clinical Skills: Must have experience in Neonatal intensive care and common procedures in NICU (intubations, chest tubes, lumbar punctures, etc.).
  • System Experience: Familiarity with Cerner (currently used) and transitioning to Epic in 2026.

Key Soft Skills:

  • Self-Directed: A candidate who takes initiative in learning and improving.
  • Team-Oriented: Must work effectively with a team of 400 nurses and 30 neonatal dietitians, and be able to collaborate with a large practitioner team of 85.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Ability to communicate professionally and work well within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Desirable Experience/Skills:

  • Bedside NICU Experience: Ideally, the candidate will have hands-on bedside experience in NICU settings, especially in high-acuity care (e.g., ECMO, surgical patients).
  • Procedural Skills: Experience with neonatal procedures (intubations, resuscitation, chest tubes, lumbar punctures) is highly valued.
  • Leadership: Leadership in neonatal care or resuscitation teams, and experience in high-risk deliveries.
  • Learning Orientation: The ideal candidate will be a lifelong learner, eager to enhance their skills and take part in clinical projects or initiative

Shifts & Scheduling:

  • Self-Scheduling: 12-week schedules set in advance.
  • Rotating Shifts: 10-hour day shifts, 14-hour night shifts, and rotating 12-hour transport shifts.
  • Weekend Requirements: 15 shifts per 12-week period.
  • Holiday Coverage: Expectation for 2 shifts during spring/summer holidays, and 2 shifts during winter holidays.
