Job Title: Medical Support Assistant

Summary:
The Medical Support Assistant (MSA) is responsible for coordinating pre-authorized medical services for Veterans outside the VA Healthcare System. This role involves scheduling appointments, managing referrals, obtaining medical records, and ensuring compliance with VA policies and HIPAA regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Schedule, cancel, and reschedule patient appointments and consults.
  • Manage consults/referrals and track progress to closure.
  • Handle incoming/outgoing calls with patients, providers, and VA staff.
  • Maintain medical records and update patient demographics.
  • Coordinate care with community providers and request external medical records.
  • Process emergency and non-emergency transfers to other VA or private facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with VHA scheduling directives and privacy regulations.

Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Background check, pre-employment physical, and vaccinations required.
  • One year of experience at GS-5 level with demonstrated skills in healthcare coordination, communication, and medical terminology.

Work Schedule: Multiple schedules available, Full time
