What you need to know about this position:
- High-tech lab that includes areas of Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulations, Urinalysis, Blood Bank and a full Microbiology Department

- The base hourly rate for this position is $25.48. Individual compensation is determined for this position through years of directly relevant experience and does include shift differentials and premium pay as applicable. The hourly compensation is only a portion of the total rewards package and a comprehensive benefits program is available for qualifying positions.
- In this position you would be scheduled to work 3 - 12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM Friday - Sunday; 36 weekly hours
What is required for this position:
- Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology or a related field
- Certification as MT (ASCP) MLS (ASCP) CM, or MT, AMT
- This position will require frequent standing walking, talking and listening, as well as lifting or moving up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds
- Must be able to use a microscope and have excellent hand-eye coordination, and distinguish colors
- Must be able to maintain concentration with many interruptions and work in a high stress environment
Performs Medical Laboratory Tests and Procedures
- Completes departmental orientation checklist(s).
- Performs assigned analytical tests or procedures following established protocol.
- Operates instruments utilizing established protocols and quality control checks.
- Recognizes factors affecting measurement and takes appropriate action according to predetermined protocols.
- Recognizes results that are abnormal or deviate from those expected.
- Communicates test results, normal ranges, and specimen requirements.
- Reports and documents STAT, CRITICAL, or to-be-called results within the established time frame protocols.
- Answers inquiries about test results, methods, specificity and sensitivity and questions about specific factors that can
- influence test results.
- Uses computer to manage data through input, storage and retrieval.
- Communicates information regarding inventory of reagents and supplies to appropriate personnel.
- Monitors, reviews and communicates pending work in area of responsibility.
Clinical correlation/Quality Assurance
- Correlates results generated by various laboratory departments.
- Confirms abnormal results according to established protocol.
- Verifies quality control procedures.
- Maintains accurate records of quality control procedures.
- Recognizes out-of-control results and troubleshoots QC problems that they have identified (or those that have been
- directed to them by either a co-worker or supervisor).
- Calibrates tests according to standard procedure as designated by instrument manufacturer and/or department
- technical specialist.
- Analyzes QC data, makes judgments concerning the results, and takes appropriate action to maintain accuracy and precision.
- Resolves problems concerning generation of laboratory data based on scientific principles.
- Evaluates and solves problems related to technologist or instrument performance of procedures.
Preventive and Corrective Maintenance
- Performs and documents routine preventive maintenance procedures.
- Recognizes equipment malfunctions, troubleshoots problem and documents corrective action within prescribed
- guidelines using available resources.
- Method Evaluation/Research and Development
- Compares alternate techniques and procedures with current in-house methods for accuracy and precision in
- cooperation with department technical specialist.
- Implements new techniques and procedures in cooperation with department technical specialist.
- Writes and revises technical procedures as directed by department technical specialist.
- Establishes and monitors quality control programs in cooperation with department technical specialist.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
One of the following is required:
- Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) - Not required for renewal (certification obtained prior to January 2004)
- Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification from American Society for Clinical PathologyCM (ASCP)
- Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification from American Medical Technologists (AMT) Individuals with a bachelor's degree in medical technology or a related science and completion of an accredited Clinical Lab Scientist program without a current certification required to receive certification within the earliest of 6 months of employment or graduation.
There are 3 openings for the MLS/MLT with different shifts:
- Full-Time Evenings (40 Hours)
- In this position you would be scheduled to work evenings; 24 weekly hours; 8-hour shifts; start time varies; every other weekend and holiday rotation with team.
- Full-Time Weekend Days (36 Hours)
- In this position you would be scheduled to work 3 - 12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM Friday - Sunday; 36 weekly hours
- Part-Time Evenings
- In this position you would be scheduled to work evenings; 24 weekly hours; 8-hour shifts; start time varies; every other weekend and holiday rotation with team.
