Job description

Job Title: Patient Access Representative

Address/Commute: Laguna Hills, CA 92653

M-F 8am-5pm

Pay: $21-24/hour DOE

Job Summary:

As a Front Office Medical Assistant, you will be the first point of contact for our patients, providing exceptional customer service in a fast-paced clinical environment. Your primary responsibilities will include greeting patients, checking them in, scheduling appointments, collecting payments, verifying insurance coverage, and ensuring accurate patient registration. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask effectively. This role offers an opportunity for growth within a growing practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet all patients respectfully, courteously, and confidentially upon arrival.
  • Perform various clerical and administrative duties related to patient care delivery.
  • Collect patient demographics, health information, and verify insurance eligibility/benefits.
  • Enter and verify patient data in computer systems accurately and in real-time.
  • Interview patients to obtain registration, financial, and insurance information.
  • Assign appropriate financial class and insurance plans to patient visits.
  • Secure patient signatures on necessary forms (e.g., waivers, financial agreements).
  • Create medical records for new patients within the network.
  • Collect patient co-pays and discuss financial obligations with patients. Verify insurance coverage, benefits, and provide price estimates.
  • Identify and collect outstanding balances from previous visits.
  • Direct patients and families to appropriate areas within the clinic.
  • Schedule appointments for patient services and confirm appointments as needed.
  • Demonstrate appropriate telephone etiquette and handle calls promptly and courteously.

Day to Day:

  • Perform front office duties including patient check-in and check-out.
  • Collect eligibility and co-payments from patients.
  • Coordinate with back-office Medical Assistants for patient check-out and scheduling. Receive thorough training in formal front office procedures.
  • Work Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM.
  • Provide empathetic assistance to elderly patients.
  • Interpret and quickly learn medical terminology.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to advance professionally within the practice.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience in a similar role.
  • Strong experience with insurance verification.
  • Experience with Medi-Cal or Cal Optima preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Medical Assistant Diploma (preferred).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred).
