Job Title: Medical Billing Specialist

Pay Rate: 20-25/hr based on experience
Location: Valhalla, NY
Hours: M-F 8:30am-4:30pm (no evenings, no weekends)

Overview:

  • Full spectrum of rev cycle
  • Insurances:
    • Commercial (75%)
    • Medicaid (25%)
  • EMR: Expanse (just moved from Meditech)
  • Keeping track of aging claims

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that all bills are prepared and claims submitted manually and/or electronically in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with government and contractual rules, regulations and billing procedures
  • Performs end-to-end revenue cycle functions, from billing through collections process, including evaluating claims denials and resubmitting claims
  • Manages AR aging claims and balances to reduce AR days outstanding
  • Thoroughly researches and resolves all patient account credit balances in a timely manner
  • Aggressively follows-up on all account A/Rs via mail and telephone and any electronic means necessary in a timely and competent manner
  • Maintains or coordinates any authorizations required to support payment of claims
  • Respond to all audit requests in a timely and professional manner
  • Accurately posts cash payments in a timely manner making all reconciliation adjustments Interact with insurance providers to obtain status and resolve problems with patient accounts with or on behalf of patients/parents or legal guardian
  • Responds to inquiries about patient bills in a courteous and timely manner
  • Assist patient families in completion of Medicaid applications
  • Must handle difficult situations and individuals and be well organized and competent in handling multiple tasks concurrently
  • Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well with a variety of agencies, families and staff in a clear and calm manner
  • Maintain and improve skills by attending system upgrade seminars and provider meetings as required
  • Complete all internal training and job specific external training as necessary
  • Keeps supervisor informed at all times regarding any problem accounts and/or work conflict issues
  • Provides coverage for other Patient Account Representatives as needed (for critical functions)
  • Accepts additional responsibilities and special projects as delegated by the Assistant Director or Director of Patient
  • Accounts and demonstrates ability to carry out duties efficiently and timely
  • Maintains specific target goals as designated by the Director of Patient Accounts

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required
  • Associate's degree preferred
  • 3+ years of Medical Billing experience
  • Hospital billing experience required
