Job description

Job Title: Billing Specialist

Location: Onsite in San Francisco, CA

Job Summary:

Seeking a detail-oriented Billing Specialist to ensure accurate billing operations at our health center in San Francisco. Responsibilities include data verification, coding, managing billing processes, and resolving issues with providers, staff, patients, and payers.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Verification and Coding:

- Verify encounter data; request corrections as needed.

- Code procedures/diagnoses and enter charges into the system.

- Maintain manual tracking for non-digital encounters (Lab/X-ray).

Error Management:

- Track EHR/front-end errors; report weekly.

- Provide feedback on data errors to providers and staff.

- Assist with coding reviews and error resolution.

Billing and Claims:

- Address patient billing inquiries.

- Handle denials and claim rejections; appeal unpaid claims.

- Monitor payer reimbursements; identify changes in patterns.

- Perform collections on outstanding accounts.

- Respond to payer correspondence; follow up on information requests.

Claims Processing:

- Oversee claim submissions and payment posting.

- Reconcile daily batches to ensure accurate submissions.

- Resolve claim, payment, and capitation issues.

- Process paper claims, including secondary insurance.

Compliance and Education:

- Conduct periodic medical record audits.

- Stay current on industry updates; attend meetings.

- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines.

Must Have Skills/Qualifications:

- High school diploma/equivalent.

- 3-5 years of medical billing experience.

- EPIC experience.

- Proficient with various insurance payers.

Nice to Have Skills:

- Associate's Degree.

- Bilingual (Spanish and English).

- Experience with FQHC, Medicare, and Medicaid.

Hours are Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm PST and pay is $27.50/hr
