Job description

* Interviews and records patients' chief complaint and medical histories
* Prepares patients for examination or treatment by the physician
* Enters patients' medical information into the patients electronic medical record
* Performs technical work ups and diagnostic testing by operating various ophthalmic equipment to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient, as ordered by the
physician, including conducting tonometry or tonography tests and visual field tests, etc.
* Transcribes physician's examination data into patient's electronic medical record
* Instills eye medications, as ordered by the physician
* Communicates with patients about their prescriptions, follow-up care, procedures, symptoms, physician generated instructions and/or post-operative status
* Prepares treatment rooms for patient exams, keeping the rooms neat and clean
* Maintains and sterilizes medical equipment, instruments, and facilities
* Performs administrative duties such as answering phones, sending correspondence to
pharmacies or other authorized parties, maintaining an inventory of supplies

* Works overtime as necessary

* Follows applicable policies and procedures and takes precautions to establish a safe work environment

* Maintains strict patient protocols in accordance with practice policies/ HIPAA requirements

* Maintains a high level of professionalism with patients and works to establish a positive rapport

* Performs other duties as assigned

3-5 Must Have Skills/Qualifications
  • High School Diploma
  • 1-3 years of related medical assistant and/or optometry/ophthalmic experience
    preferred
  • Must be able to travel between Lakewood and Los Alamitos office and to work overtime, as needed
  • Computer Knowledge; Microsoft Office Suite

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM -5:00 PM
