Job description

Position Title: Medical Assistant

Department: Orthopedics

Hours: Mon-Fri 8-5, now nights, no weekends.

Position Summary

The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing high-quality patient care and administrative support in a clinical setting. This role ensures the smooth operation of day-to-day activities in the clinic, assisting healthcare professionals with medical procedures, patient interactions, and maintaining accurate records.


Key Responsibilities



Clinical Duties:

  • Prepare patients for examination by taking medical histories, measuring vital signs, and recording information in electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Assist physicians and healthcare providers during medical examinations and minor procedures.
  • Administer medications or vaccinations as directed by a physician, following state regulations.
  • Provide patient education on treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care instructions.
  • Sterilize medical instruments and maintain cleanliness in examination rooms.
  • Handle medical equipment and ensure it is functioning properly.


Administrative Duties:

  • Schedule patient appointments and manage the clinic's calendar.
  • Verify insurance information, process referrals, and handle prior authorizations.
  • Update and maintain accurate patient records in the EMR system.
  • Answer patient inquiries via phone or email, and provide excellent customer service.
  • Manage inventory of medical supplies and place orders when necessary.


Team Collaboration:

  • Act as a liaison between patients and healthcare providers.
  • Coordinate with other team members to ensure efficient clinic operations.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff meetings.

Qualifications



Education & Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, CCMA or equivalent) preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
