Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Ophthalmic Technician to join our team and assist with patient care across multiple office locations. The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative patient care team, responsible for performing key clinical procedures, assisting the physician, and ensuring a seamless patient experience. This is a traveling position requiring flexibility to float between 3 locations, including a home base office and 2 satellite offices.
Responsibilities / Job Duties:
- Clinical Support: Perform ophthalmic tests, such as acuity measurements, tonometry, lensometry, Amsler grid, autorefraction, and pupil evaluation.
- Patient Interaction: Act as the liaison between the patient and physician, gathering medical histories, explaining procedures, and educating patients.
- Patient Charting: Maintain accurate patient records, including medical histories, current symptoms, medications, allergies, and other relevant data.
- Equipment Maintenance: Care for and maintain ophthalmic instruments and equipment, ensuring sterilization and proper microbial control.
- Assistance with Procedures: Support the physician in minor surgeries and laser procedures as needed.
- Medication and Prescriptions: Assist in calling prescriptions into pharmacies as per physician's orders, and manage patient follow-up.
- Clinical Skill Development: Continuously improve clinical skills, including performing advanced tests and patient assessments.
- Travel Requirements: Travel between assigned locations as required, and assist with coverage at various offices based on business needs.
- Team Collaboration: Participate in safety committees, training new staff, and other non-clinical duties as needed.
Minimum Education and Experience Qualification Requirements:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience:
- 2+ years of experience in ophthalmology or optometry preferred.
- Medical Assistants (MAs) with strong clinical experience and a solid work history may be considered and trained as Ophthalmic Technicians.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in performing ophthalmic tests such as tonometry, lensometry, and pupil evaluation.
- Knowledge of ocular anatomy, diseases, and clinical procedures.
- Ability to travel between multiple office locations.
- Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Certification: Ophthalmic Technician certification (or willingness to obtain) preferred but not required.
