Job description

Title: Medical Assistant
Pay: $18-$23 DOE
Hours: Monday- Friday 8:00am-5pm - No weekends
Setting: Family Practice and Womans Health

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments as ordered by the provider and within legal boundaries.
  • Prepare and administer oral and parenteral (excluding IV) medications and immunizations as directed by the ordering provider, and as permitted by Wisconsin law.
  • Screen and follow up with test results, per provider recommendations.
  • Recognize and respond to emergencies.
  • Perform electrocardiography and respiratory testing as ordered by the provider.
  • Document patient communication and clinical treatments timely, accurately, and appropriately.
  • Educate the patient as directed by the ordering provider in health maintenance, disease prevention, and compliance with the patient's treatment plan.
  • Identify community resources for health maintenance and disease prevention to meet individual patient needs.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and monitor appointments.
  • Recognize and respect cultural diversity.
  • Employ professional telephone and interpersonal techniques, applying medical terminology appropriately in all settings.
  • Adapt communication to an individual's understanding.
  • Recognize and respond effectively to verbal, nonverbal, and written communications.
  • Serve as the communication liaison and patient advocate between the patient and health care team.
  • Provide coverage for other staff members.
  • Enforce HIPAA Regulations.
  • Identify and respond to issues of confidentiality.
  • Perform tasks within legal and ethical boundaries.
  • Comply with established risk management and safety procedures.
  • Recognize professional credentialing criteria.
  • Perform and actively participate in quality control, quality improvement, and organizational strategic plans.
  • Attend and actively participate in department and other organizational meetings.
  • Maintain skills through continuing education.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Two years or more in a clinic, physician's office or hospital setting preferred. Nursing students who have completed at least two nursing clinical rotations will be considered for this position.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Certification as a Medical Assistant, Associates of Science with AAMA certification preferred. Certification in CPR mandatory.
