Material Sample Technician

Job description

We are seeking a Sample Prep Technician to work in our dynamic, fast paced geochemistry environment. This position will require heavy physical labor in hot dusty working environments with majority of time spent sitting or standing.

Essential Functions

  • Take bags of bulk samples and lift into machinery to be crushed and pulverized into smaller samples to be analyzed by the lab.
  • Lining out, Crushing and Pulverizing,
    • Stage 1: Line out - take samples and put them into sacks & weigh them, samples average 25 pounds but can be as heavy as 50lbs or as low as 5lbs
    • Stage 2: Crushing - these heavy bags must be lifted overhead and dumped into the crushing machine so they can be broken down into smaller samples
    • Stage 3: Pulverizing - samples are then pulverized into even smaller pieces to be sent to Fire assay team
    • Employees must wear a respirator on stage 2 and 3 (Crush and Pulverize)
  • Basic Lab cleanliness duties.
  • Maintain production lab.
  • Loading and unloading drying ovens under supervision.

Requirements / Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to work in a hot and dusty environment
  • Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs; sometimes continuously (occasionally lifting may exceed 50lbs and assistance is mandatory from either another employee or the lift assist equipment)
  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities
  • Be cleanly-shaven in order to wear protective equipment.
