Job description

Job Summary: The Mammography Technologist is responsible for detecting abnormalities in breast tissue by performing mammographic imaging studies and presenting the results for diagnosis.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet patients, confirm their identification, review imaging requests, check for special instructions, and confirm the anticipated service.
  • Ensure patient cooperation by reducing anxiety, explaining procedures, equipment, and answering any questions.
  • Conduct mammography exams by positioning the patient, adjusting compression settings, instructing the patient to hold their breath, retreating to a lead-protected area, adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors, capturing the image, and releasing compression mechanisms before preparing for the next view.
  • Minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff by following radiation protection protocols.
  • Maintain the quality of mammograms by adhering to established standards, developing images, reviewing results, making adjustments for optimal images, retaking images as necessary, and forwarding completed studies to the radiologist for interpretation.
  • Ensure proper operation of mammography equipment by performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting issues, arranging repairs, and managing equipment inventory.
  • Uphold a safe and secure work environment by following and enforcing safety standards and procedures.
  • Document mammography services in patient records accurately.
  • Stay current in the field by engaging in educational opportunities, reading relevant publications, networking with professionals, and participating in industry organizations.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Certified in Mammographic Radiologic Technology.
  • Proficient in operating advanced computer equipment.
  • Strong interest in scientific and technical knowledge.
  • Able to engage compassionately and effectively with patients.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Independent and detail-oriented, with a focus on precision.
  • Highly self-motivated and able to follow detailed instructions.
  • Minimum of 3 years of prior experience in mammography.
