Job description

Overview:
Join our team as an Inpatient Coder II, where your expertise in ICD-10-CM/PCS coding, medical terminology, and understanding of complex surgical procedures will directly impact patient outcomes and hospital reimbursement processes. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong foundation in coding conventions, Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, and a thorough understanding of MS-DRG and APR-DRG methodologies.

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of inpatient coding experience in an acute healthcare setting.
  • RHIT, RHIA, or CCS credential required.
  • AHIMA membership (or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience with coding in Epic and familiarity with 3M Encoder resources.
  • Strong written communication skills using SBAR techniques.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Review medical record documentation within CAC (computer-assisted coding) or Epic to assign accurate ICD-10 codes for principal diagnoses, CCs/MCCs, secondary diagnoses, and procedures.
  • Navigate Epic's Doc Review and Chart Review to enhance coding accuracy.
  • Optimize CAC functionality for coding efficiency and accuracy.
  • Collaborate frequently with Clinical Documentation Specialists to resolve DRG mismatches, query opportunities, and clarify documentation.
  • Manage high-dollar and long-stay cases (30+ days) involving the highest acuity patients.
  • Provide support for DRG denials and draft appeals as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with department accuracy (95%) and productivity (90%) standards
