Job Title: Remote Inpatient Coder

Job Description:

Seeking a detail-oriented and certified Inpatient Coder to join one of our top clients. In this role, you will play a crucial part in accurately coding and classifying inpatient medical records in various specialties such as Radiation Oncology, Chemotherapy Infusion, Cardiac Cath / Electrophysiology and Interventional Radiology.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze inpatient medical records, including physician notes and other relevant documents.
  • Assigns diagnosis and procedure codes on inpatient cases using ICD-9-CM and CPT coding systems
  • Assigns DRGs using the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and all patient groupers and abstracts data for statistical, reimbursement and regulatory requirements
  • Validate coding accuracy and completeness while maintaining compliance with AHIMA or AAPC coding guidelines.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, clinicians, and other staff to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies.
  • Stay current with coding updates, regulations, and industry best practices to maintain certification and provide accurate coding.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations in handling patient information.
  • Contribute to the improvement of coding processes and efficiency within the healthcare facility.

Qualifications:

  • Valid certification from AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association) or AAPC (American Academy of Professional Coders)
  • Experience in Radiation Oncology, Chemotherapy Infusion, Cardiac Cath / Electrophysiology and Interventional Radiology
  • Demonstrated proficiency in concurrent medical record review program that emphasizes partnering between clinical documentation specialists and coding
  • Proven experience in inpatient coding using various coding systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Diagnosis-Related Groups (DRGs) and the ability to accurately assign them.
  • Familiarity with healthcare compliance and regulations, including HIPAA.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills for collaboration with healthcare professionals and staff.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Continuous learning mindset to keep up with industry changes and coding updates.
