In Vivo Research Associate

Job description

Medix (San Diego) is seeking to hire an outstanding candidate to join the Ocular department at the Research Associate level. The Research Associate will play an important role by supporting in vivo studies to test devices being developed for various ocular disorders.

Primary responsibilities:

This position requires a broad knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry to help develop and support in vivo models to screen therapeutics and devices being developed for various indications. Experience with surgical, dosing, and sampling techniques is required.

Other essential functions include:

  • Experience in the administration of test substances by various basic methods (i.e., oral gavage, SQ, IV, ID,etc.) in multiple species (mouse, rat, rabbit, dog, pig).
  • Performed topical ocular dosing.
  • Manage and observe animals for general health and overall well-being.
  • Experience in the collection of biological specimens (i.e., blood from appropriate vessels from all species of laboratory animals at the site).
  • Able to perform study related activities in compliance with Good Laboratory Practice Regulations (GLPs), study protocols, and company policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Review documentation to ensure functions performed meet quality control requirements.
  • Handle, restrain, and provide care for all species of laboratory animals at the site.
  • Perform study preparation activities including collection tube labeling and room setup.
  • Performed Intraocular Pressure (IOP) measurements (Pneumatonometer/Tonovet).
  • Perform fundus imagine.
  • Handle and hold animals for imaging work.
  • Performed necropsies- tissue collection.
  • Assist surgeon in the Operating Room.
  • Maintain storage, use, and record keeping for control substances.
  • Performed and monitored animals for anesthesia, and analgesia.
  • Performed postoperative and monitoring, and animal recovery.
  • Performed catheter placements in large animals.
  • Interface with different teams including study director, principal investigator, QC/QA, Account Managers/Sales.
  • Maintain accurate records in various internal databases: eQCM, Provantis, Vivarium +.
  • Support internal research projects to optimize service Perform aseptic techniques.
  • Perform other duties as directed by management.

Candidate Requirements:

  • HSD/GED required with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience.
  • Associate degree (preferred) in veterinary technology with a minimum of 4 years relevant experience.
  • B.S with minimum of 3 years relevant experience.
  • M.S. with a minimum of 2-3 years relevant industry experience depending on education level.
  • Certification as a registered veterinary technician (RVT) is a plus.
  • Education level requirements could be amended based on relevant years of experience.
  • Background in lab animal (in vivo) research is a must. Working knowledge of preclinical techniques and modalities will be a plus.
  • Position requires good communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and ability to adapt in a dynamic team environment are keys for success.

  • Mon-Fri from 8am-5pm (will need to work occasional weekend days)
