Job description

Position Type: Temporary/Contract (with high likelihood of extension through December and beyond)


Position Overview:
We're seeking a Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist to support a project aimed at managing and digitizing patient records. This role is essential in helping tackle a backlog of medical charts, improving access to vital patient information across departments. This is a contract position with the potential to transition into a permanent role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Chart Retrieval: Navigate the facility to pick up physical charts from various departments and chart walls, maintaining a timely pick-up rate.
  • Chart Preparation: Prepare records by re-sticking labels, repairing downtime charts, and ensuring accuracy and readability before scanning.
  • Scanning and Digitization: Use the DCX scanning system to scan and upload charts into the Highland One EMR and Cerner system for digital archiving.
  • Additional Duties: Assist with miscellaneous tasks necessary to complete the project, including managing physical and digital record handling.

Schedule:
This position requires a 6-day work week with shifts as follows:

  • Second Shift: 4:30 pm - 1:00 am, Sunday through Friday or Monday through Saturday
    Training will be provided on your assigned shift.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Required Experience: Previous experience in healthcare, ideally within Health Information Management, medical records, or administrative roles in clinical settings.
  • Technology Skills: Proficiency with Excel, comfort with digital systems, and adept at navigating technology (e.g., EMR systems and email).
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to be mobile for extended periods (1.5+ hours), including walking and pushing a record cart.
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, quick learning, punctuality, and consistent attendance. Self-motivation and attention to detail are essential.

Additional Requirements:

  • Compliance: Candidates will need to pass a criminal background check, education verification, and a 5-panel drug screening
  • Health & Vaccinations: Vaccinations are required, as the role involves working in patient areas. R1 RCM's Occupational Health team will handle all necessary health clearances.
  • Dress Code: Business professional attire is required
  • Parking: Free onsite parking for staff.
