Job Summary:

The Healthcare Financial Counselor plays a crucial role in assisting patients with understanding their financial responsibilities related to medical services. This position involves guiding patients through the complexities of insurance, billing, and payment options while ensuring a compassionate and supportive approach. The ideal candidate will possess strong financial acumen, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of healthcare reimbursement processes.

Job Description:

  • The financial counselor will be responsible for learning and honing their skills with the software to streamline the Medicaid enrollment process.
  • They will be responsible for connecting with patients who present to the hospital to complete their enrollment, get them registered in the system, complete their intake survey, etc.
  • Customer service is paramount.
  • Must be comfortable working with and using technology.
  • Financial Guidance: Provide patients with clear and accurate information regarding their financial obligations, including insurance coverage, deductibles, co-pays, and out-of-pocket expenses.
  • Insurance Navigation: Assist patients in understanding their insurance benefits, verifying coverage, and resolving any issues with claims or denials.
  • Payment Planning: Develop personalized payment plans for patients, including options for financial assistance, sliding scale fees, or payment arrangements.
  • Billing Support: Review and explain patient bills, identify discrepancies, and work with billing departments to correct errors.
  • Financial Assistance: Evaluate patients' eligibility for financial assistance programs, such as charity care or government aid, and help them complete necessary applications.
  • Education: Educate patients about financial options and resources, including government programs, grants, and community resources.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and confidential patient financial records and documentation.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of enrollment experience.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
