Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and flexible Financial Counselor to join our team. In this role, you will primarily handle insurance verification while also providing financial, credit, and debt management counseling and education services to patients. You will utilize alternative means to obtain coverage for uninsured or underinsured patients and perform complex insurance verification and eligibility determinations. This position involves varied administrative and clerical duties, including complex investigative and problem-solving activities to minimize the hospital's bad debt risk. We are looking for someone who is adaptable and willing to assist with various projects as needed.

Location: Philadelphia, PA


Hours: Monday - Friday, flexible hours determined during the interview (typically 8 AM - 5 PM)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform complex insurance verification and eligibility determinations for patients.
  • Provide financial counseling, including credit and debt management, to patients.
  • Assist patients in obtaining alternative coverage options when uninsured or underinsured.
  • Conduct sensitive and complex clerical tasks, including investigative and problem-solving activities.
  • Minimize hospital bad debt risk through thorough financial assessments and patient education.
  • Participate in various projects as required by the department.

Requirements:

  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a financial counselor or in a related role within a healthcare environment (Required).
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a clerical role (Required).
  • Skills & Knowledge:
    • Strong understanding of hospital registration, third-party billing, and associated regulations (Required).
    • Experience in insurance verification and registration within a hospital setting (Required).
    • Bi-lingual Spanish and English communication skills (Preferred).
