Job Title: Remote Financial Clearance Specialist
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9am-5:30pm CST
Location: Remote (U.S. based)
Employment Type: Full-Time, Contract

Overview:

Join a collaborative and mission-driven team as a Financial Clearance Specialist. In this role, you'll ensure that patients are financially cleared prior to their scheduled services by verifying insurance, securing authorizations, and collecting on estimates.

This is a remote opportunity for professionals with strong insurance verification, authorization, and EPIC experience who are passionate about patient-centered financial care.

Team & Environment:

You'll be part of a dynamic Financial Clearance department composed of two teams:

  • Pre-Registration Team: 9 members focused on validating patient demographics and collecting estimates.

  • Authorization Team: 22 members focused on verifying insurance and securing authorizations.

Both teams work closely together to ensure patients are financially secure prior to the date of service. The environment is collaborative, fast-paced, and detail-oriented.

Key Responsibilities:

Authorization Responsibilities:

  • Verify eligibility through insurance web portals or EPIC verification tools.

  • Review physician orders and confirm CPT codes.

  • Determine if authorization is required and confirm if one exists.

  • Coordinate with provider offices to request or follow up on missing authorizations.

  • Handle a mix of government and commercial claims.

  • Maintain a daily productivity goal of 40 authorizations with 90-95% accuracy.

Pre-Registration Responsibilities:

  • Confirm and update patient demographics over the phone.

  • Create financial estimates in EPIC and attempt to collect prior to service.

  • Handle 50+ accounts or calls per day.

  • Meet quality targets of 90-95%.

  • Aim to collect 30% of the amount estimated.

Requirements:

Must-Haves:

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in insurance verification and authorization.

  • Experience working with EPIC.

  • Strong understanding of commercial insurance and deductibles.

  • Familiarity with both commercial and government claims (govt is a plus).

  • High school diploma

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with patient collections.

  • Customer service experience, especially over the phone.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office and phone systems (e.g., CX1).

  • Background in prior auth or registration roles within large health systems.

Soft Skills & Attributes:

  • Tech savvy and efficient multitasker.

  • Friendly, empathetic, and patient-focused.

  • Comfortable with outbound/inbound phone work.

  • Detail-oriented with a strong sense of accountability.

  • Able to stay productive and organized while working remotely.
