Job description

Overview:
  • Patient Registration & Check-In/Out: Collect and update patient demographics, explain registration processes, and provide discharge instructions while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.
  • Insurance Verification & Pre-Authorization: Confirm insurance coverage, process approvals/denials, and handle behavioral health pre-certifications at the point of service using Availity.
  • Medical Record Management: Maintain accurate patient records in Meditech Magic (transitioning to Meditech Expanse) and prevent duplicate entries using the Patient Master Index (PMI).
  • Payment Processing: Collect co-pays, deductibles, and other payments, issuing receipts and necessary documentation.
  • Clinical Staff Communication: Relay patient information to clinical teams, ensuring seamless coordination of care.
  • Work Queue Management: Assist with OneSource tasks during downtime.
  • De-escalation: Professionally handle tense or stressful situations by using active listening, maintaining a calm demeanor, and providing clear communication to resolve patient concerns effectively.
3-5 Must Have Skills/Qualifications:
  • Typing speed: Minimum 25 WPM

  • Strong customer service & conflict resolution skills

  • Ability to multitask (multiple screens)

  • Understanding of safety-net hospital environment.

  • At least 6 months of experience with patient registration in the healthcare field

Nice to Have Skills:
  • Experience with Meditech, Availity, OneSource, Passport

  • Prior admitting/registration experience in the hospital

Shift Times:

  • 6:00am-2:30pm
  • 2:00pm-10:30pm
  • 10:00pm-6:30am
