Job description

Job Title: Medical Records Coordinator

Location: Towson, MD

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (flexible start times after training)

Overview: We are seeking a dedicated Medical Records Coordinator to ensure the timely retrieval, processing, and quality review of patient charts. This role is essential in maintaining accurate medical records and supporting our healthcare team. You will prepare charts for scanning, perform quality checks, and handle death certification processes in accordance with state regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Retrieve and prepare patient charts for scanning and indexing.
  • Review scanned images for accuracy and quality; re-scan poor-quality documents as needed.
  • Index documents accurately to the correct patient contact serial number (CSN) and document type in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Manage daily electronic work lists to ensure timely processing of all items.
  • Complete and file death certificates according to state regulations, coordinating with physicians and funeral homes when necessary.
  • Assist with Release of Information coverage as needed.
  • Maintain expected productivity and quality standards; submit weekly productivity reports.
  • Communicate issues or concerns promptly to the Team Leader and assist in training new staff.

Requirements:

  • Reliability and a strong attendance record are crucial.
  • Experience with EMR systems (EPIC preferred) is a plus.
  • Previous experience in medical records or healthcare is preferred but not required.
  • Open to candidates with non-healthcare administrative or clinical backgrounds looking to transition to desk work.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Schedule/Shift Details:

  • Initial training will be required for at least one month at standard hours.
  • After training, you can select a flexible schedule starting between 6 AM and 9 AM.
  • On-call responsibilities will be required for one weekend a month after conversion, primarily for certifying death certificates (minimal calls expected).

Salary: $17-19/hr
