Job description

Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Medical Collector to join our Financial Patient Billing Office (FPBO) Team. This role focuses on A/R collections and billing, handling multiple insurance contracts and entities. The Collector will analyze and audit accounts to ensure accurate balances, proper follow-up, and complete reimbursement while resolving collection issues efficiently.

This is a contract-to-hire opportunity


Compliance Requirements: Background check, drug screening, COVID vaccine (booster required), TB screening, physical exam, and flu vaccine.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Account Management:

    • Analyze and audit accounts for accurate balances and timely follow-up.
    • Process payor rejections/denials and resolve accounts per department standards.
  • Collections & Payments:

    • Work on rejected or denied claims by rebilling, calling for status, and tracing claims.
    • Identify misapplied payments and request adjustments, transfers, or refunds as necessary.
  • Insurance & Billing:

    • Verify and correct patient registration and insurance data using available resources.
    • Request necessary authorizations (e.g., SARs for CCS, TARs for Medi-Cal) for account resolution.
    • Ensure compliance with Medicare/Medi-Cal/CCS and other payor guidelines for proper adjudication.
  • Correspondence & Documentation:

    • Process phone, online, and paper inquiries, taking appropriate billing actions.
    • Resolve phone issues/questions by retrieving documentation and taking necessary actions.
    • Maintain correspondence logs, completing tasks weekly per department standards.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in physician billing and follow-up.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with government and commercial payors, including Medi-Cal and Medicare.
  • Skills:
    • Proficient in managing all types of patient accounts.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
