The Certified Medical Assistant performs administrative and clinical duties under the direction of a
physician.

Duties/Responsibilities:
* Maintains accurate and detailed reports and records by recording patients' medical history, vital
statistics, and other information such as test results in the medical record system. Reports
symptoms or changes in patient's condition to the registered nurse and physician.
* Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.
* Shows patients to examination rooms and prepares them for the physician by interviewing
patients to obtain medical information and measuring their vital signs, weight, and height upon
admission.
* Authorizes drug refills and provides prescription information to pharmacies.
* Explains treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physicians' instructions to patients within
the scope of their certification.
* Helps physicians examine and treat patients, handing physicians the necessary instruments or
materials for performing tasks such as giving injections or removing sutures.
* Collects blood, tissue, and other laboratory specimens. Labels the specimens and prepares them
for testing.
* Performs general office duties which includes but is not limited to contacting medical facilities or
departments to schedule patients for tests or admission, and scheduling future appointments for
patients with the clinic.
* Ability to modify treatment plans as directed by the physician. Consults and coordinates care with
other healthcare team members when needed.
* Initiates the authorization of medication and administers medications to patients.
* Communicates results to patients at the direction of the physician
