Job description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary treatment team, clients, and the public.
  • Assess patient safety and intervene promptly and appropriately in crisis situations.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Work independently, demonstrating sound judgment and maintaining composure in high-pressure situations.
  • Apply foundational counseling skills while understanding individual, group, and family dynamics.
  • Engage in both indoor and outdoor activities with clients, including outings and transportation of supplies.
  • Maintain a calm, objective demeanor when working with residents who may be emotional or uncooperative.
  • Utilize computer skills for report writing and documentation.
  • Implement crisis intervention techniques to assess and de-escalate aggressive behavior.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Experience Required:

  • One (1) year of experience in mental health, counseling, or substance abuse treatment.
  • Academic background in Behavioral Sciences.

Desired Experience:

  • Two (2) years of experience in mental health, counseling, or substance abuse treatment.
  • Experience with homeless outreach, housing placement, LAHSA programs, or related services.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Criminal Justice, or a related behavioral health field; OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in a non-related field with two (2) years of direct client mental health service experience; OR
  • Four (4) years of direct client mental health service experience.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Successfully pass background checks from the Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Community Care Licensing (CCL).
  • Valid California Driver's License.
  • TB clearance.
  • Acceptable driving record for coverage by Gateways' insurance provider.
  • Certification in Management of Aggressive Behavior (M.O.A.B).
  • Completion of Fire and Safety Training.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute Training (CPI).

Note: If any required certifications are missing, they must be obtained within 180 days of hire. CPI training must be completed within 30 days of hire on a designated onboarding date, and staff must be certified at the appropriate level for their role to fulfill job responsibilities
