Job Title: Patient Accounts Specialist
Location: Knoxville, TN.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (Some flexibility may be available)
Pay: $16 - $19 per hour
Job Description:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Patient Accounts Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will ensure that charges and patient accounts are updated promptly and accurately, resolve billing issues, and handle pre-collections responsibilities. This role requires effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with patients, insurance companies, and internal staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Post patient charges to the billing system using appropriate ICD-10/CPT codes.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve billing issues related to patient accounts.
- Contact patients in pre-collections to collect on outstanding accounts.
- Answer primary phone calls in a timely manner, taking accurate messages and directing calls appropriately.
- Maintain, update, and audit patient account information to ensure accuracy.
- Adjust patient accounts in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Communicate with insurance companies and patients as needed.
- Report any problems, questions, or concerns to the manager.
- Continuously update patient account information to reflect the most current data.
- Attend training and meetings to stay informed on revisions related to insurance, registration, coding, and computer skills.
- Obtain necessary patient information through secure access to hospital records.
- Assist in obtaining authorization numbers from insurance companies and hospitals.
- Support other office functions, including sorting faxes, checking in charges, paging physicians, and replenishing supplies as requested.
- Collaborate with colleagues and other office personnel as needed.
- Adhere to the corporate compliance plan and maintain strict confidentiality.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10, and CPT coding.
- Proficient in data entry and processing with strong computer skills.
- Understanding of basic spelling, grammar, and punctuation for processing patient information.
- Ability to apply policies and principles to solve problems and manage various situations.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with physicians, patients, staff, and the public.
- Excellent organizational skills to establish priorities and coordinate work activities.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Experience in full-cycle medical billing is preferred, as candidates with this background typically excel in this role.
- Candidates with a coding certificate or CPC-A are highly valued.
- Recent graduates who have completed a medical billing or coding program are encouraged to apply.
- Candidates with experience in front-end billing or payment posting who possess the aptitude to be trained in full-cycle billing will also be considered.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in medical billing or coding is a plus.
- Previous experience in medical billing, patient accounts, or a related field preferred.
