Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Animal Technician to join our team at a leading Immunotherapy Contract Research Organization (CRO). The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting our research efforts by providing expert care to small laboratory animals involved in immunotherapy studies. The position involves a range of responsibilities including injections, animal handling, tail bleeds, and general care to ensure the well-being of our animal models.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Animal Handling and Care: Responsible for the daily care and handling of small laboratory animals, including mice and rats, ensuring their health and well-being according to established protocols and regulatory standards.
  2. Injection Procedures: Perform accurate injections of therapeutic agents, test substances, or other materials into animal models as directed by study protocols, ensuring precision and adherence to experimental timelines.
  3. Tail Bleeding: Conduct routine tail bleeds for sample collection, following standard operating procedures (SOPs) to obtain blood samples for analysis while minimizing animal stress and discomfort.
  4. Observation and Monitoring: Regularly observe animals for signs of distress, illness, or adverse reactions to treatments, promptly reporting any concerns to senior staff or veterinary personnel.
  5. Record Keeping: Maintain detailed and accurate records of experimental procedures, animal observations, and data collection in laboratory notebooks or electronic databases, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  6. Environmental Monitoring: Monitor and maintain animal housing conditions, including temperature, humidity, and lighting, to provide optimal environmental conditions for animal welfare and experimental integrity.
  7. Collaborative Support: Work closely with research scientists, veterinarians, and other team members to support experimental protocols, troubleshoot technical issues, and contribute to the success of immunotherapy research projects.
  8. Equipment Maintenance: Assist with the cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies, ensuring proper functionality and compliance with safety standards.
  9. Compliance and Safety: Adhere to company policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and regulatory guidelines governing animal research, laboratory safety, and biohazard handling.
