Job description

Animal Care Technician
Location: Downtown NOLA - 70118
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7 AM-3 PM, with some weekend and emergency shifts required

About the Role

As an Animal Care Technician, you'll be responsible for providing routine care to research animals in a supportive and dynamic environment. You'll play a critical role in ensuring the health and well-being of animals while adhering to strict clinical and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and provide food, water, and medications to animals.
  • Maintain sanitary housing and working conditions.
  • Observe and report animal conditions, behavior, and health concerns.
  • Collect specimens and assist with animal restraint as needed.
  • Perform minor cage maintenance and ensure appropriate animal housing.
  • Follow specific safety precautions and protocols when working with potentially hazardous agents.

What We're Looking For

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • At least 6 months of hands-on animal care experience (e.g., feeding, cleaning, and monitoring health-pet sitting or dog walking does not qualify).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and push up to 200 pounds.
  • Comfortable standing for extended periods of time.

Required Skills and Attributes:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments effectively.
  • Team player with a commitment to confidentiality.
