Animal Care Technician

Job description

Job Duties:

  • Perform routine animal husbandry (cage change, food/water, health monitoring).
  • Prepare and submit records, census sheets, room logs, cage cards, and inventories.
  • Sanitize and decontaminate all areas of the facility.
  • Follow room entry order and bio-safety procedures.
  • Dispose of waste following appropriate SOPs and waste streams.
  • Receive, identify, and properly house incoming animal shipments according to SOPs.
  • Maintain animal racks and support equipment.
  • Assist with ordering, receipt, and stocking of all supply inventories.
  • May perform basic animal health treatments with direction from the veterinary staff.
  • Understand and follow SOPs, safety procedures, and quality assurance guidelines for animal care at all levels of biohazard containment (BSLI and BSLII).
  • Perform daily animal health surveillance checks and report any abnormal conditions of either the animals or the animal room environment to client, veterinary staff, and direct supervisory staff.
  • Maintain a daily animal cage census in assigned animal rooms.
  • Remove and sex (male/female) weanling animals to separate cages.
  • Humanely euthanize animals as requested or required
  • Perform other duties under supervision, as assigned.

Postion Requirements:

  • Reliable Transportation
  • High School Diploma
  • Animal Care or Husbandry experience - Ideally at least 1 year minimum


  • The schedule while training is Monday-Friday
  • After training, the schedule is Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday
  • 7am-4pm
