Job description

About The Role
Provides basic husbandry services or perform tasks involved in the care, maintenance, and welfare of animals (e.g. mice, rats, rabbits, dogs, non-human primates).

Resposibilities:

  • Adherence to Safety and Study Protocols: Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), and governmental regulations to maintain safety and research integrity.
  • Safety and Health Compliance: Implement appropriate safety and health practices, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to barrier requirements when necessary.
  • Animal Identification Tasks: Perform animal identification duties such as tattooing, determining sex, and applying ear tags.
  • Monitoring Animal Behavior and Health: Monitor animal behavior and health status, promptly reporting any deviations or concerns to the relevant authorities for further evaluation.
  • Animal Care and Husbandry: Carry out routine animal care tasks including cleaning, feeding, sanitation, and providing enrichment activities as required.
  • Equipment Operations and Maintenance: Operate, maintain, and perform tasks related to equipment such as cage washers, autoclaves, and cage movement systems.
  • Environmental Monitoring: Regularly observe and report any anomalies in animal room environments such as temperature, humidity, lighting, ventilation, and pest control.
  • Facility Maintenance and Management: Undertake general facility cleaning, stocking, inventory management, and room preparation, including sanitation and repairs as necessary.
  • Animal Handling and Distribution: Receive, distribute, and manage animals for isolation, study assignment, or consolidation purposes.
  • Professional Development: Participate in training programs to enhance knowledge and expertise in laboratory animal science.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.

What You'll Need To Succeed

  • High school diploma or GED (or equivalent).
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Positive attitude toward work and co-workers.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • AALAS certification preferred.
