Job description

The Billing Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of advanced billing functions including identifying and reviewing claims, coding, rectifying billing errors,and interfacing with insurance carriers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Identifies all surgery cases on a daily basis.
  2. Accurately inputs billing codes in accordance with coding company standards and best practices.
  3. Ensures proper account documentation that is clear, concise and includes all required information.
  4. Maintains medical claim remittance notices for designated insurance carriers.
  5. Responds to incoming calls and electronic communications from patients and insurance carriers in a respectful and professional fashion.
  6. Upon request, provides billing related reports and other materials to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in the absence of the Patient Accounts Manager.
  7. Performs cash postings as requested.
  8. Functions as an effective team member.
  9. Demonstrates adaptability, flexibility, and accountability when changes are made in job description and responsibility, including performing all qualified duties throughout other areas of the hospital.
  10. Strives to maintain the confidentiality of all patients and their families/significant other(s).
  11. Formulates and maintains effective working relationships with peers, managers and other members of the health care team.

Educational requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

Experience:

  • Claims follow up/appeals
  • 3 years experience in medical billing
  • The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing
  • Establishes and maintains long-term customer relationships, building trust and respect by consistently meeting and exceeding expectations
  • Possesses the ability to work effectively with other employees, patients and external parties
