- Rutgers cancer institute which will be under RWJBH in the next year.
- They will be on EPIC eventually, they'll use evecore and navinet a lot.
- Commercial and government payers.
- There's around 35 charity care patients per day.
- They'll sit out of NB, we confirmed today.
- They're seeing patients for charity care apps, but they have a patient access team that's bedside. This team does a lot of their follow up over the phone
Full job description
- RWJBH is aware that some patients may experience financial vulnerability during their treatment.
- Our navigators evaluate their level of exposure to the possibility of financial toxicity which can hinder patient's treatment.
- This personalized approach to providing patients with knowledge and hopefully financial savings will add a level of comfort and improved health outcomes to an otherwise challenging moment.
Duties Include:
- Assist cancer patients in applying for pharmaceutical and medical assistance
- Counsel patients in navigating through medical bills, insurance benefits, and financial resources available.
- Determining the best sources of payment for services provided to patients
- Working with patients, physicians, nursing staff, pharmaceutical and insurance companies
- Travel to other client facilities as needed
- On average they do 35 applications per month. The financial counselors they are trying to bring in would be responsible for getting through all of that and she has 6 total. Numbers are increasing but this is where she stands now for the first quarter. Breast group might have 10 procedures one day and the prostate might have two and then it can shift.
- Most procedures are pre-scedhuled so the counselor would be responsible for checking the schedule in advance for any procedures that are scheduled. Anything done last minute they would receive via epic chat, email, epic inbox, or someone might come ask them directly from the floor.
- Jack of all trades kind of role. Everything from charity care to estimates and auth. A little more diverse of a background will be required. Agreed we should look for some auth experience because of that.
- Primary responsibilities are charity care, authorizations (only related to clinic procedures), out of network cases where they need to have the patient sign the disclosure form, and as needed creating estimates in epic.
- These folks are the middle man for collections. More of a system issue that they have both RWJ and Rutgers employees on her staff. She sees the patient, they need to pay a portion and they walk it over to the front desk who would process it. They can collect but cant do anything else because their machines are not compatible.
- Want the candidates to be comfortable obtaining auths.
- They use RTE through EPIC but experience with Navinet, Availity, etc would all help them get acclimated easier.
